FZ09

By gosh, what have I done? I bought an FZ09. It feels like a motorcycle... not just any motorcycle, THE motorcycle. It's not at all smooth like my R3, nor is it nimble. I am having a hard time getting used to it but am trying my best to practice.

It's large, it's fast, it's jumpy.

Funny thing, all of the reviews and vlogs I have seen for this bike name it a beast of a bike - "a wheelie monster", "total hooligan machine", "850cc of MEAN", "the most fun bike I have ever owned" - lots to say about this machine on the internet. A dozen wheelie videos and blog posts praising the bike's low-end TORQUE, later and somehow I was hooked(?). I wasn't sure if I was hooked.

I started riding in B Mode so it's easier to get used to. I'm definitely not confident enough to #canyoncarve on it but I got used to the basics. Definitely don't feel like a hooligan...yet. Every time I mount, I patt the gas tank and remind myself to respect the beast.

Conversation Hour on Monki Moto Pod Hi everyone! It's Tara with Monki Moto Pod! I'm excited to introduce you to a new segment of the podcast.  I'm not changing the regular format of interview style episodes on Tuesdays with a select guest who graciously makes time to talk with me. I am adding a new episode to be released on Thursdays, where appropriate. Most of the time, I am very busy working on various things, but have been working very hard on making content about people in the motorcycling world that I hope many people find value in. The new segment is called "Conversation Hour" and it is based on the conversations I have with Mark as he is trying to fall asleep. Two-Stroke Tuesday

Sending good ️vibrations for #twostroketuesday Mechanics of a Two-Stroke The engineering behind the way two-strokes work is pretty cool. Essentially, the shape of the exhaust uses pressure (sound) waves from combustion to expel fuel while creating pressure to supercharge the piston. The early two-strokes had straight-pipes that tuners would cut to the perfect length so the motor would run optimally at the desired engine speed. Over time, tuners learned 'pressure waves could be created to help pull spent gasses out of the cylinder' and 'that the speed of these waves is more or less constant, though it's affected slightly by the temperature of the air'. That means, a single length pipe is built for a motor at an ideal RPM and the powerband is thin. So the question was, how to get a better timed reverb from the pipe without changing the length?
