Two-Stroke Tuesday

Sending good ️vibrations for #twostroketuesday Mechanics of a Two-Stroke The engineering behind the way two-strokes work is pretty cool. Essentially, the shape of the exhaust uses pressure (sound) waves from combustion to expel fuel while creating pressure to supercharge the piston. The early two-strokes had straight-pipes that tuners would cut to the perfect length so the motor would run optimally at the desired engine speed. Over time, tuners learned 'pressure waves could be created to help pull spent gasses out of the cylinder' and 'that the speed of these waves is more or less constant, though it's affected slightly by the temperature of the air'. That means, a single length pipe is built for a motor at an ideal RPM and the powerband is thin. So the question was, how to get a better timed reverb from the pipe without changing the length? The change in the shape of the pipe diameter changes the negative pressure waves (reflections). By gradually inc...
