Womens Dirtbike Training Academy Campout
My Experience
This past weekend, I spent time in the Mojave Desert with Women's Dirtbike Training Academy: Women's Only Moto Campout. I was invited by the owner of the academy, Kaitlynn Kirk, who I was introduced to by a mutual friend when I was seeking one-on-one training for dirt bike skills. We connected through social media first then I took her fundamentals one-on-one coaching in January and learned so much in one session.
Our lesson covered the basics: good body position, how to control the bike, and how to ride with the terrain presented to you. I wasn't riding with the correct posture and with just a few corrections, I was feeling more confident on the bike. She guided me through a few drills that tested my coordination, balance and control. That was the biggest help to me since I didn't really know what to train for. By the end, I was taking the turn track faster, smoother, and wasn't so afraid to make a mistake.
I highly recommend her to women wanting to learn and get better on a dirt bike. Can't say it enough that she will take good care of you and is an amazing instructor.
Anywhhhhhhey..........the campout was AMAZING! I met so many women who were great dirt bike riders and interesting people. I and got to learn their stories. We rode a few trails as a large group and rode some trails in separate groups based on skill level. I suited up with the beginner ride and our lovely guide Kylee showed us the ropes, all the while encouraging us when we made mistakes and supporting us through our achievements! I felt accomplished and happy that I was able to gain some seat time and new female friends who also love and live dirt bikes.
Women's Dirtbike Training Academy: Moto Campout Summary
The campout was a two and a half to three day event with group rides planned for Friday and Saturday, with potential to ride Sunday if there was enough interest.
Thursday/Friday: Arrival
Saturday: Basic training + group ride + group rides based on skill level in the afternoon
Sunday: go home/group ride for those interested
Kaitlynn, owner of WDTA, and her mother, Tammy, hosted the event. Tammy was the best! Not only did whe come with 100% energy and laughter, she provided the riders with some fruits and electrolyte drinks and reminded us to EAT. I definitely felt the love. The event was also sponsored by a few businesses: WLF Enduro, TBT Racing, Shock Sox, Go Fast Girls, Odi Grips, and more!
Thursday night or anytime Friday was arrival day. For those arriving Thursday, a trail ride on Friday was planned. Those who stayed for Sunday had some time for a short trail ride. Due to rain on Saturday morning, the training was postponed and the group went together on a ride to a dry lake bed where everyone got to top out their bikes and zoom around. The afternoon ride that day was split between beginner trails and intermediate trails. I joined the beginner group led by Kylee.
After a full day of fun, we all convened at the camp site and started playing games with prizes. Log racing (barrel racing) and a slow race were great ways to end a great day in the Mojave Desert!
I wanted to stay and ride more but left on Saturday since I was scheduled to race Glen Helen on Sunday. That race ended up being cancelled but I found something else important to do with my time instead.
10/10 recommend to all my moto girlies who LOVE dirt bikes and want to make some memories with a great group.
